Meat Shields aka Your wall

YOUR WALL: SANCTUARY DEFENCE

Your wall is what opponents face when they attack your sanctuary. They must defeat your wall to win the battle.

Your wall matters in general defence and PvP events, including Valiant Conquest, Nukaland, Reservoir Wars, Doomsday, and State versus State.

TRAINING TROOPS

You can only see and adjust your wall’s troop formation when you have enough troops to fill it. Training troops is an extremely important part of building your defence.

Your wall selects your highest-tier troops by default. Having lots of low-tier troops does not automatically protect your higher-tier troops: if the higher tiers are selected for your wall, they will take losses first.

T1 TAXIS VS T6 TROOPS

T1 vehicles, often called “taxis,” used to benefit from a difference in defence between vehicles and other troop types. That advantage is gone, although many players still remember the old strategy.

T1 taxis remain the cheapest way to build a defensive meat shield while developing your main troop type. However, cheapest does not mean most effective.

For a low-cost wall that can also hurt your attacker, train T6 troops. T6 is the lowest tier that benefits from Revenge, provided you have completed the relevant research. This allows your defensive troops to kill more of the attacker’s troops.

WALL HEROES

Pay attention to which heroes are assigned to your wall.

When you send a wall hero out to battle, the game can automatically replace them with another hero. You may end up defending with a lineup you did not choose.

Avoid assigning heroes you regularly use for attacking, or change your wall lineup before sending those heroes out. Check your wall again after changing your marches.

CHOOSING YOUR TROOP MIX

Build your wall around the attacks you expect to receive and the troops you want to keep available for your own marches.

The troop counters are:

Fighters beat Shooters.
Shooters beat Riders.
Riders beat Fighters.

This also means:

Fighters are weak against Riders.
Shooters are weak against Fighters.
Riders are weak against Shooters.

EXAMPLE: A SHOOTER MAIN

As a shooter main, I expect Fighters to attack me most often, so I give Riders a larger share of my wall to counter them.

I also keep a substantial portion of my wall as vehicles. They can be troublesome for opponents to fight through, while helping me preserve more of my main combat troops for attacking other players.

This is an example of a wall built around my needs. Your troop mix should reflect your own account and the opponents you face.

NUMBER ONE TIP: TEST YOUR WALL

Use events such as Valiant Conquest, Nukaland, and Reservoir Wars to test different wall setups, where you get 100% of your troops back.

Review your battle reports, adjust your troop mix and heroes, and compare the results. Testing is the best way to find what works for your account.
